Oasis - Rock and Roll Spa

Hull Daily Mail Review
Urban Audio provide Oasis' with Nexo

Continuing on from our long standing engineering relationship with Oasis, we recently had the opportunity to provide our full audio expertise in the form of a Nexo Alpha PA System for the bands Bridlington Spa show. After a three week break from the previous intense touring schedule a warm up show was in order before the big outing at the V-Festival, so Yorkshire's recently refurbished 3500 capacity Bridlington Spa was booked to host an unusually intimate Oasis gig.

Venues like this present there own unique challenges for a touring crew especially when you have been doing stadiums the month before! After having a quick read of the venue tech package it soon became clear that this was not going to suit a line array style PA as there was very limited flying points, a short throw to the back wall and we still needed to achieve a full 180 degree coverage of the venue as it has balconys all the way round. The decision was taken very early on in the planning process that this show would be done using a conventional PA, one which Oasis and long time engineer Bruce Johnston have had a great working relationship with since its first outing with them some 12 years ago, Nexo Alpha.

Bruce Johnston commented:
"Alpha is still a great system, one of my all time favorites. I had forgotten how good it sounded and how fun it is to mix on, If this was only half way through the tour i would be seriously considering a move back to Alpha for the rest of the shows!"

Urban Audio's Dan Lewis commented:
"The Alpha really was the perfect solution for us in this venue, the flexible flying system enabled us to wrap the arrays round to cover all of the balcony yet still providing good even coverage and excellent audio quality throughout the venue. This would not have been possible with a line array system as we would have been missing huge chunks of the hall on either side due to the lack of extra flying points to hang another array. Also when doing venues of this size, the truck space becomes a big issue and with the entire PA and support package fitting into only 5 walls in the truck it meant that there was still bags of room for the rest of the production."

Oasis bought in their own control package from long time supplier Brit Row consisting of an XL4 at FOH and XL8 system on stage with D&B M2 wedges and C4 side fill.
Urban Audio provided the main PA System consisting of Nexo Alpha and Alpha E series cabinets all with Camco amplification and Nexo NX241 processing. Overall system Zoning, Eq and delay was handled by UAP's recent Dolby Lake purchase complete with wireless tablet interface. UAP also provided a complete support band package of M7CL's and a full line system to cover Detroit Social Clubs needs.
